Customer Review: Malfunction/short circuit
Good sound when it worked. Noise cancelling OK. Mostly worked because of the in-ear buds. Sometimes you have to clean out the holes with something small or you lose sound quality. Recently I developed a short in just the left side, so now it only works intermittently. I tried to open it up and fix it, but the screw on the earpiece didn’t really get me to the wires. You would have to break it to get to find the short. Another reviewer says it is over $50 to get a new refurbished one, plus shipping/handling–not worth it. Usually I love Sony products, but this one not so much.

I was looking for a good set of headphones to use on flights when I travel and when I work out. On flights I realized that the noise canceling abilities were not all that great.

It cancels well steady noises like airconditioned equipment but all other random noises, like people talking around, are not cancelled well, it just makes it a bit softer. It makes a considerable hiss, so not very good if you like to listen music at low levels. I bought this item as refurbishied so it was cheap, making it a fair product at the price lever. I would not recommend to buy it as new.

If you just want a nice sounding pair of headphones, buy these, but if you are looking for something to knock down the airplane noise, look elsewhere. They just dont get the job done. Not even close.

Customer Review: excellent for the money
The clarity of this product playing on an ipod NANO ranks with Sony, maybe Bose. For the money, these are a good buy. You can buy these and keep the $60 to $100 a better name would cost. Behind the head is a good feature too.

If these headphones reduce or cancel noise, then I have not noticed that. I have had better noise reduction with $5 Coby CVE92 Isolation Stereo Earphones and $20 JBuds Hi-Fi Noise-Reducing Ear Buds. iLUV do not cover the ear completely and I am not sure if there is any electronic noise cancellation.

Customer Review: WANT EAR DAMAGE?, THEN BUY SONY!
I bought a pair of these in FEB’06 for almost $200. For that price you would think they would last more than 2 years, especially when they’ve only been used about 20 times. Nope last few flights, I get this constant annoying, almost deafening, high pitch blaring with the noise cancelling feature on. It stops briefly when I tap on the ear piece then returns. I even tried new batteries to no improvement.
I called Sony customer care to see if they could exchange them with a refurbished product. Nope, rep told me the warranty was only 3 months! For $200!! WAY TO STAND BEHIND YOUR PRODUCT SONY!
I’m suppose to call Customer relations on Monday-I think I know where that’s going.
I won’t be buying Sony again unless they replace these. Read all the reviews before you buy, alot of people have had the same issue with this model and the newer NC60.
You’re suppose to get what you pay for, not with this brand. Designed by Sony but made in China, cheap labor belting out cheap product, hence the 3 month warranty.

I bought this product that it would have good quality, but no. There is a lot of background noise, which probably means poor materials. Also the noise canceling is weak. I can still hear a lot of noise in the background. I should have shelled out for a more expensive one.
